Movie Magic...

Although, I'm always doing Vivica Fox for red carpets and appearances....she sometimes invites me on movie sets with her to glam her up "character" style:) In this particular movie she plays a fabulous music agent, and her look had to be simple but pretty. We kept the make up clean and natural with more focus on the lips and skin. I can't reveal too much, just take a quick look at some shots I took behind the scenes...

People are always asking me what's in my kit. I just say a little bit of everything, because it's the truth. Starting out at Prescriptives, working 7 years with MAC, 2 years with YSL, and freelancing in Barneys New York....I have way more products than I actually use. My MUST HAVE staples are Koh Gen Do Foundations, NARS powders, YSL Touche' Eclat concealers, MAC eye shadows, and blush from anybody I like at the time. I am a huge fan of YSL lipsticks as well as Milani lipglosses for that hint of shine! I am obsessed with Mally Roncal's Poreless Face Defender, and Eve Lom Skincare for under my make up. If there are any new products on the market, I'm always willing to try them once on a test shoot first to see how the product responds. I never try new things on clients, especially red carpet clients.....I fear unexpected surprises once the cameras go off:) I like to mix it up, but I'm pretty much a creature of habit when I do make up...so although I have LOTS to choose from, I can get a face camera ready with only 7 items!

MOD Mannequin

Hairstylist and good friend of mine Rai Bonner of Anais Coiffure needed my services for a themed shoot she wanted to do. I love to test with new photographers and when there is a great concept created, so I was super excited! Here are some behind the scenes look at what we call the "MOD Mannequin"...
I used NARS foundation in Syracuse which is lighter than the model's natural complexion to create the look of wax-like skin. I applied very natural lashes and shaped the brow with a pencil. I also used white eyeliner, Fascinating by MAC, to create the look of eyes with no life, I didn't use any eyeshadows, just bronzer and other powders to contour a little. I also used Lip Tar by Obsessive Compulsive cosmetics in the color Pretty Boy on the lips.

Dollface K. Briscoe...

Superstar song writer and recording artist K.Briscoe gets all dolled up for Grammy weekend! Check out a few of her looks! Basically she has gorgeous big eyes that we love to play up to the fullest, so we went smokey with dark greys and purples. I must say, aside from my Koh Gen Do foundation that I love so dearly...my new MUST HAVE is the Lip Tar by Obsessive Compulsive cosmetics. The color is a pure pigment stain, and great for long wear, she wore the color Cha Cha! Did I mention their products are 100% vegan??!! This is a behind the scenes peek at her look for the Essence party:)

We love you Whitney!

I was able to work with Queen Latifah again over the weekend...and as excited as I was, it was a very bitter sweet moment. Right after I had finished her make up, she got a phone call that Whitney Houston had passed away. We were devastated and in disbelief for the first 15 minutes, then the tears started:( Being the professional that she is, Latifah was able to pull herself together and walk the red carpet and perform at the charity event. Although her heart was heavy, she sounded amazing and it made me feel stronger for even being around her. It is a fabulous life, there is glitz and glamour, but after it's all said and done...we are all human. We have emotions, we feel sad, and we pray...so we all did.

I grew up on Whitney's music, danced around my room singing her songs...the whole nine, so this was hard for me as a fan....but even harder for those that are her friends and family. We love you Whitney. May your angelic voice find it's way back to heaven and your beautiful soul rest in peace.

Superbowl XLVI...

Yes I love my job!! I was lucky enough once again to go on a trip with Vivica Fox. This time it was to her home town, which just happened to be home of the Superbowl this year...Indianapolis! She was a guest of the NFL Alumni, and a presenter for the NFL Alumni Awards ceremony. It was an amazing weekend to say the least!
We were all set for the tailgating festivities. It was pretty cold there, so I wanted to keep her face bright since her clothing consisted of warm tones and layers. We did a pretty natural eye with lashes of course, and MAC's Rebel lipstick on her lips!

Her look for the night events was very warm. We gave her a smokey eye with a plum base for a touch of color (MAC Artjam Paint), a peach cheek (MAC Peaches blush), and a neutral lip (YSL #14 Rouge Volupte with a shimmery gold gloss on top). The look was versatile, as it went right into the evening with a little more black eyeliner added.

Such a fun and exciting weekend! I'm glad I was able to experience Indianapolis like I did. It was a blast! Go GIANTS!!

Shine STOPPER!

Ok, so this little compact is the new love of my life! A make up artist friend of mine, Tiffani Banks, turned me on to it. After her bride in humid New Orleans stayed flawless and matte on her wedding day, I was sold!! It's the Evercolor Poreless Face Defender by Mally Beauty. You all know Mally Roncal, the make up artist to stars such as Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez?? If you don't, you should! She is a make up artist that I like because her looks are always clean. Anyway, this is a perfect way to stop shine for anyone. It's great on set for touch ups, bald heads, and guys who don't want to wear make up, and all my clients got one for Christmas for those red carpet touch-ups when I'm not around:) It's only $40, and you can get if for a little less on QVC. Your "Premier Face"

PREMIER: Coming before all others in time or order; leading, beginning...

That's the definition of premier, and your "premier face" is just the beginning of your make up regimen. This is the look you must perfect for yourself before you begin to build up and experiment with all the make up out there. My "less is more" approach when it comes to make up stems from the idea of the premier face. Make up should be just enhancing your natural beauty on a day to day basis. Stage, movie, editorial, and red carpet make up is more intense, and not for everybody. When doing your premier face, the key things to remember to focus on are the brows, the skin, and the placement of the products you use. Ultimately, you want people to see you and say "you look pretty" vs. "your make up is pretty"...then the make up becomes a mask that you hide behind, and you don't feel beautiful without it.

What's underneath??

I'm always asked what products I use underneath the make up. I have faithfully used the same products for quite some time now. Once I've observed how something wears, and photographs...if the make up stays the same, I'm hooked! On a clean face, I apply the Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion. It hydrates the skin without leaving it heavy or oily. I like how the texture of the skin changes once it's on.

Once I've let the moisturizer dry, I apply a serum. Eve Lom Intense Firming Serum is the best thing since sliced bread. I stumbled upon this product while freelancing at Barneys. I was looking for something that protected and firmed the skin, but didn't affect the make up while it's ingredients were actively working...and I did! I put this all over the face with my fingertips, and go right in with foundation--almost mixing the two. The skin smoothes out instantly...it's lovely!

Music to love...

This past week I had the pleasure of working on a project with my beautiful friend/client, Korrina Rico. Korrina was the lead in a music video for the song "Valentine", by Canadian rapper King Klutch. The video was directed by the talented Tony Swansey, and his crew was on point! I titled this blog music to love, because this song wasn't a typical rap song, it reminded me of LL Cool J's, "I Need Love". It was a song for a special lady, and that's missing in today's music. Klutch's rap style is unique, and he was an all around nice guy:)

Korrina was supposed to be just waking up, so the make up used here was pretty simple. I used the Smashbox Artificial Light in the lighter color all over her face, and I contoured and highlighted her face by using YSL #2 and #3 as her foundation. I set with a little loose powder thru her T-Zone, and added bronzer and mascara. Lip balm was used for the lip for a natural shine.

The director wanted to keep Korrina as dreamy and as natural as possible, so we kept her make up pretty soft up until the final scenes. I lined her eye with the YSL waterproof black pencil, and added more bronzer with a corner lash to finish the look. Her eyes are intense, so it doesn't take much to add drama.

All in all, the day was super fun and everyone on set was amazing to work with. As you can see, Korrina had many costume changes...check her out below rockin' out. Go Korrina!! I will post the video once it's available...I hope you enjoyed the peek behind the scenes:)

Loving Koh Gen Do...

My foundation of choice for the past year has been the Koh Gen Do's Maifanshi Moisture Foundation. It's a 3D Real Skin High Def Foundation that goes on smooth, has medium to full coverage, and it's long lasting. Even though they have roughly only 10 colors, the colors that they have cover a wide array of skin tones, and can be easily mixed! At $62 a tube, a dab will do you...don't squeeze out too much:)

To balance out redness in the skin or to brighten a dull concealer. This correcting primer is one to try. I sometimes mix it with the YSL #4 Touche Eclat to create a beautiful tawny color that I use as a light foundation if needed.

The Spa Cleansing Water Cloths is a great way to prep your client's skin before applying anything. The small microfibers in the cloth really clean out what sometimes hides in pores. It leaves the skin primed and ready to go.

If looks could kill...

Boy o boy, the day of the 'Joyful Noise' premiere was crazy! I had so many clients to do, and right before Vivica's appointment, my car was towed in Hollywood (long story). Anyway, I made it to her with just 35 minutes to get her ready...and the outcome was gorgeous! She glowed on the red carpet, and obviously the press thought so, because they took a million pictures of her. If they only knew, lol! Her look was simple, but this time I used a new component to my process. Vivica's east coast make up artist, Elena George, uses the Smashbox Artificial Light in the deeper color under foundation. So I did just that, and applied my favorite Koh Gen Do foundation right on top. I used YSL Touche Eclat #3 under Vivica's eyes to brighten, with Bobbi Brown stick concealer in #6 blended out. On her eyes, I used MAC Artjam Paint with the YSL #1 Chromatics Palette blended into a light smokey eye. We used our favorite Stila black eye liner in the water line, and Kevin Aucoin's nude lip pencil was her lip color with Chanel gloss #41 over it! Way to sparkle Viv!

Vivica promotes holiday movie...

She was promoting her new movie 'Annie Claus is Coming to Town' which aired December 10th on the Hallmark Channel. We kept her make up look very simple and fresh. Especially since it was High Def television, the more natural the make up...the better!

I was jumping up and down when I got the call to work with mega star Queen Latifah!! I have been blessed in this industry, and I have worked with many celebrities...this was definitely more confirmation that I am on the right track. I was super nervous at first because she always looks so flawless, so I knew I had to bring my A-Game:) She was super humble, and an absolute pleasure to work with. Her skin is amazing, so it wasn't hard work for me at all. Her longtime hairstylist, Julie Baker, keeps her hair so healthy and pretty....so of course her look rocked! Here's her performing at the The Trevor Live Project in Los Angeles. It was a great cause, an the turn out was crazy! Hopefully, you'll see more of my work with her:)

Chanta goes west...

My client and good friend Chanta Patton set up a shoot for herself that was absolutely AMAZING!! She enlisted her dream glam squad to shoot with photographer, Isaiah Mays, and the rest was history. Myself, and wardrobe guru Mr. Bradshaw got her ready for her close up:) She killed the shoot as you can see! Great work everybody.....I love it!!

A Holiday Treat...

Each year Hollywood kicks off the holiday shopping season with a star-studded parade along Hollywood and Sunset boulevards. This was the 80th year of the parade which benefits Marine Toys for Tots organization, and of course Ms. Fox was invited to participate!Vivica's look for this event was all her idea. She wanted color, she wanted sparkle, she wanted full on glam for this Christmas parade. She wanted to use purple in the look, but she left it up to me to make it all come together. I started out doing a smokey eye on her using the MAC Paint Artjam, then I added MAC's Blackberry and Swiss Chocolate eye shadows to warm up the look. I then took a flat brush, and added a soft touch of MAC Pigment in Lilac, on the inner corner of the lids. We did 2 pairs of lashes for added glam, NARS blush in Desire (discontinued), NARS highlight in Luster, and YSL Rouge Volupte #8 and #2 lip gloss for a pale pink pout. I contoured her slightly and we finished the look with YSL Black Waterproof liner in the water line and smudged on top. To add a little more drama, I lined the upper lid with Shiseido Creme Liner and brought it out at an angle. This looked sparkled on the red carpet! She definitely knows her stuff, and I'm so glad she wanted to go with this make up look. It made everything come together:) I thought this was a great way to showcase variety in your holiday wardrobe. It doesn't have to be red, black or silver this year....you can light up the night in pink!:)

Healthy, Wealthy & Wise...

One of the best things about traveling with a celebrity client is being exposed to many different things, meeting different people, and really being involved in more than just the make up. I was fortunate to go with Vivica Fox on a trip to Detroit, MI for a FAB event for black women. It was for the Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise Tour. Since Ms. Fox is all of the above, she was a special guest at the Black Women's Empowerment Luncheon. She spoke about her career as an actress, her business endeavors, and even her hair line for some beauty tips! Women who owned businesses, as well as women who worked in politics, and fitness were in attendance. I was at the table sitting by a former Congress woman who loved Vivica's make up:) I look up to women in positions of power, and it makes me want to work harder to achieve the level of success I seek in this beauty industry.

It was a great lunch, great people, and the room was filled with such positive energy. Of course everyone was asking about her make up, so I will share what I used on her!
She wanted to go for a more warm fall look since it was cold and rainy while we were there, I used Eve Lom Serum to prep the skin. I then used my mix of Koh Gen Do foundation, NARS stick concealer in Toffee, NARS Tahoe powder to highlight, and NARS New Orleans powder to contour, Sue Devitt Pointe-Noire eye pencil, MAC Raisin blush, with Orgasm blush from NARS, and YSL #12 Lip Pencil with #33 Rouge Pur Shine Lip stick also from YSL. She looked amazing!

Holiday lip time is here....

It's time to break out those bright red, berry, and burgundy lip colors ladies.....the holidays are fast approaching! I'm sure many of you have holiday parties to attend, well that's the perfect time to add color to your makeup without feeling over the top.

When choosing the right color for your skin tone, make sure you always lightly line the lips with a warmer pencil before going in with the color. It eases some of the shock value when you look in the mirror:) My favs are YSL Lip Pencil #18, and MAC's Cork....or if you're feeling bold, just do MAC's Cherry lip pencil all over your lips like the beautiful Eboni did (pictured)! Always keep the eyes and cheeks pretty neutral when wearing bolder lips! Have fun:)

Make Up on the go....

My client K. Briscoe always has me do her make up before she goes to do any type of press. I never know where she's going, but I found some footage of her with the make up look on:) She wanted a natural girl next door look, and we did just that! She is talking about her new single "Dishes" featuring Busta Rhymes and the reason she wrote the song. Check it out!

Voice over debut...

We know him as hip hop artist, actor, and poet...but now Common can add voice over animation to his long resume. I love him as an artist, and as a person. He is so humble and down to earth, and he's that way with everybody! I had to groom him for his Happy Feet 2 press junkets, and it's always a good time with his camp!

My new favorite thing to use on men and women to reduce shine is the Mally Roncal, Evercolor Poreless Face Defender. It's silicone based, so it's no powdery residue left on the skin when you touch up. I only touched his face 3 times in 3 hours of shooting.

My...My...Mai

That's all I can say after spending the day working with the fabulous Jeannie Mai, host of Style Network's hit show, "How Do I Look? I met Jeannie in Brazil while we were both there for the Miss Universe pageant, and after our flight was delayed, we bonded instantly:)
She is a beautiful person, and God is doing so much in her life, so I was honored when she asked me to do her make up for her show's holiday special. Her regular make up artist, Uzmee Krakovszki, was booked and I was happy to be her stand in for the day. Norma Blaque, her hairstylist, sweetly kept me on my toes! The production team was phenomenal, and Jeannie was as well. She is a hard worker, and she looks great while doing it. Her wardrobe stylist Bory Tan, whom I also met in Brazil, is a fashion force to be reckoned with. The looks she creates for Jeannie are ridiculous!! I love them all, and I felt so welcomed on set. Jeannie's husband Freddy is a lucky guy, but so is she, because he is also a gem!

The look I did on her for the day was transitional, from natural to heavier make up as the evening scene approached. She is gorgeous and her skin is flawless, so it wasn't hard to do. Jeannie LOVES contour, so I kept my #4 YSL Touche' Eclat close by! We also used Koh Gen Do's OC. 2 White Illuminator for highlighting, Carmel Bronze bronzer, BE02 Lipstick, and Shell Pink Gloss with a dab of MAC's Crystalled Orange glitter for added sparkle!

Oh so stunning...

I've been doing Vivica Fox's make up for quite some time now, but this particular look on the red carpet made me the happiest thus far. I dolled her up for this year's Stunt Woman Awards. Whenever you have a client that you do over and over again, you become familiar with their face, their bone structure, and you understand what works and what doesn't. I'm very honest with myself as an artist, and I am constantly learning new techniques, and using products that will make my work look better and better.

She looked stunning and her skin had this radiant glow. Everything about this look worked on so many levels, and I love it when she wears her hair back to show off her face. We used the same products we always used, but this particular time I mixed a little Koh Gen Do OC2 White Illuminator with their #301 foundation to highlight her entire face. I then used #302 and NARS New Orleans pressed powder to contour the face. I kept her blush very soft using Peaches from MAC, and her lip color was Caliope Lip Pencil from NARS lined with #7 lip liner from YSL. I absolutely loved this make up, so you will see me try this look again with minor tweaks!! Gorgeous Viv! xo

First of many...

It wasn't the first time Vivica Fox attended a premiere, but it was the first time she took my 4 year old son, Emanuel Christopher as one of her guests:) It was the "Puss In Boots" premiere in Los Angeles, and Viv wanted to share the experience with some kids she knew. My son, and her manager's son Landon, were the lucky ones to go!! The red carpet was a blast for them with all of the fun characters in the movie. Vivica looked great, and the boys had so much fun!

Since this movie was a family movie, we decided to keep her make up light and fresh. The tones were warm and natural. As usual I used Koh Gen Do foundations, which Vivica loves, in #301 and #302 mixed. I also used MAC Antiqued Eyeshadow, Smolder pencil, and our favorite Demi Pixie lashes. Her lip color was YSL #14 Rouge Volupte Lipstick and Chanel #41 Gloss. Simply gorgeous:)

"Bitchin Brows"...

What a name, huh? Well, if you saw what this brow kit did to many untamed, unplucked, unruly brows....you would call it "bitchin" as well. When I first stumbled upon this product, the creator, Tammy Carraway, did MY brows with it. I was in between appointments and I had an event to go to, so I was in a rut....so I thought. I sat down and let her work her magic with a brow pencil and two concealers...minutes later, my brows looked freshly done! I was sold, and I picked up every color for my kit! Take a look at how it shapes the brow before I blend and add foundation to my client. AH-MAZING, and the price is right!! Have people asking you who does your brows everywhere you go!

A Face I Love....

I have some clients who just love to let me do whatever to their face, and Eboni is one of them! We play when it's time to get her ready....from glitter to triple lashes....there is no boundaries:) Any new techniques I learn, I practice them on her to master it.

This time we wanted smoky glamour, and we created it using Chanel's #85 cream shadow, YSL #1 Black Waterproof Eye Pencil, NARS Goddess Eye Pencil in the water line, MAC Texture Eyeshadow, and double lashes. (Demi Wispies)

She loves the nude matte lipstick pencil from NARS called Caliope to finish the look. It's the best neutral lip with any gloss on top!

How Sweet The Sound...

I love Gospel music, so I was more than happy to lend my talents to the beautiful Michelle Williams while she hosted segments for reality show, "How Sweet The Sound." Choirs from various cities battled for the chance to be named the BEST!! I worked on the LA and Oakland shows, and we had a blast!

Michelle is a natural beauty, so my job wasn't that hard. I used my favorite mix of Koh Gen Do foundations #301 & #302, very matte eye shadows, and neutral lip shades for a fresh faced look. We changed her look so many times, and she looked fantastic! Special shout out to China Upshaw on the hair quick changes! :) Check out the behind the scenes shots and let me know what you think!

In The Hive...

Vivica had to go to DC to promote her new movie, "In The Hive", directed by Robert Townsend. The movie has not been released yet, but it has such an amazing message. A few members from the cast were asked to come speak at Duke Ellington School of The Arts about the movie, after all the students had a private screening.

I was also able to see the movie, and meet the woman who inspired the movie to be made. This screening took place at the US Navy Memorial building during Congressional Black Caucus week, so many greats were in attendance. Loretta Divine was also one of the cast members there, and she was as sweet as the characters' she plays. We had an awesome time, and afterwards our dinner plans were at a restaurant right across from The White House:) What a fabulous trip!!!

We chose a classic fall look for her wardrobe of beige and browns, so the make up was natural with a red lip to brighten and contrast.

MAC Bronze eyeshadow on the lid, Orgasm blush from NARS, YSL Touche' Eclat #3 to highlight, Koh Gen Do Foundations #301 & #302 blended for her perfect match, and YSL #7 Lip Liner with #1 Rouge Pur Couture lipstick. I love this look on her, and the hair is jammin!! I guess her fans thought so too, she could barely walk without someone stopping her for an autograph or picture. We did good:)

Working with new artist K. Briscoe is always a great time! She is always open to trying new looks, and with her pretty face, it's not too much you can't do with her. We like changing her brows up, and contouring lightly for a soft face.

She had a performance, so I wanted to make sure I played up her features. I like bright colors on the lip when I keep the eyes neutral. YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in # 27 is what we chose for this night! Love this color!

And the winner is...

Yes, I was in Brazil sitting in the third row when Miss Angola was crowned Miss Universe, and it was the most unbelievable experience ever!!! Vivica Fox was asked to be one of the judges for the pageant, which took place in Sao Paulo. This event was televised worldwide. So she took me with her to make sure she was camera ready.

I must say that this trip was over in a blink, we were in and out so fast. We spent most of the day at the venue getting her ready to work, so there wasn't a lot of sight seeing. The good times didn't stop though because we had a great time! We ate at this fabulous Italian restaurant, and I was able to try Brazil's most popular drink, the Caipirinha. It was delicious!

The pageant was a beautiful representation of many countries, and it was a great live show to watch! I had to get Vivica dolled up for a few quick changes each day. It's always easy to just change the lip color for a new look once proper foundation is in place. YSL's Rouge Pur lipsticks and YSL lip pencil were best for pops of color throughout the trip. I also used a lot more burgundy's and berry colors since it was already feeling like fall while we were there. Her look was much warmer in Jamaica:)

It was a blast....I will be back!

Fashion's Night Out goes Carribean...

Anyone who loves fashion or loves to shop, definitely knows about Fashion's Night Out. This annual event is always huge in New York and Los Angeles....well it's been introduced to the carribean, and Jamaica is doing major things with FNO for sure! This year, they invited my client, Vivica Fox, to be a host for the night at the popular Soho Boutique. Since I am her one woman glam squad at times, I was asked to go....and it absolutely made my summer!!

The fact that it was so hot in Jamaica, I made sure I packed the right make up for the trip. Vivica had to make day and night time appearances, and there was little time for touch ups, so I had to be prepared. Thanks to Koh Gen Do foundation, YSL Touche' Eclat in #3, YSL black waterproof liner, and Mally Roncal's Face Defender....Vivica looked amazing!! Oh, and special thanks to my 3 barrel crimping iron for her fabulous waves that evening:) She made their paper (The Jamaica Observer) daily in our 4 days there, so her being there was a definite treat for Kingston. They went crazy when she arrived at the event. It was chaotic, super hot, and exciting all at once!

Vivica also has a wig line that is doing very well. While she was there for FNO, she also made sure she brought gifts. Jamaica's version of Good Morning America, CVM at Sunrise, made Vivica apart of a special segment in their morning show. Two beautiful breast cancer survivors were given a few of her wigs to assist in their makeovers. It was a blessing to be there in that moment! Take a look at some behind the scenes footage of an artist who is slightly new in front of the camera, but she's been a very popular songwriter behind the music for many years. Some of her clients have included Keri Hilson, as well as Britney Spears for whom she wrote the hit "Womanizer". So, K. Briscoe is no stranger to the spotlight, but now it's her turn to shine. I had the pleasure of doing her make up for her first video "Dishes" featuring Busta Rhymes, and directed by the legendary Benny Boom. It's been far TOO long...

I just logged in and realized it has been almost three months since I blogged about my "personal" beauty endeavors. My apologies to my followers and fans. I've been more than busy with my new company, Industry Art Shops, so I have a great excuse:) We just finished two workshops with celebrity make up artist, Mario Dedivanovic, and they were phenomenal! Mario's work, along with other talented artists out there, continue to inspire me to do what I do best---bring these artists to the people who love them the most. It's always a good time and I've received tons of support to keep doing it, so I will keep you all posted on our next workshop for sure! Award Season...

Aside from planning the workshops, I still have to keep my clients happy so I was excited to work on attendees to the Golden Globes, PGA, and WIN Awards in January. Now more recently, the 42nd NAACP Image Awards. Special thanks to YSL for keeping my kit full of goodies for my clients!

I'm from Texas originally so it was only fitting that I do the make up for the fabulous wife of gospel singer Brian Courtney Wilson.............Mrs. Stacey Wilson. The fellow Houstonian was nominated for gospel album of the year, for his album Just Love Deluxe. They are always a joy to be around.

I was equally excited, and honored to work with DJ and founder of Black Girls Rock, Beverly Bond. She started a movement from a list of black women that were positive images in the media, and the first Black Girls Rock Awards aired on BET in November of 2010. Her nomination was in the 'Outstanding Variety' category at this year's NAACP awards, and she was a pleasure to work with!!

I'm super busy January - March, but it's always a good time and a blessing to work with so many talented people.

Genevieve Jackson.......one to watch!

Singer Genevieve Jackson has been my client since she was 14. Her mother, Alejandra Jackson, is a fashion designer that I've pulled clothes from to dress many clients. As a fashion stylist and make up artist, her mother and I worked together very closely to make sure Genevieve was always at her best. I've worked so closely with the Jackson family that I've naturally become a family friend over the years, so I'm just a phone call away to do make up for any event.

Genevieve was asked to be a presenter for the 4th Annual Rock the Kasbah Gala in support of Virgin Records. Everyone has been asking me what I did to get her make up ready for that night, so here it is!
To start Genevieve has great skin, so all I used was a small amount of Temps Majeur face creme and Matt Touch primer mixed together throughout her T-zone. I then used Touche Eclat highlighter #3 to mixed with a # 3 concealer under her eyes. Perfect Touch Foundation, was then lightly blended out around her highlight. I used a darker powder first to contour her skin, then a powder a little lighter than her skin to blend it all together. Her blush is the # 3 Blush Variation, her eyes were done with a mix of YSL shadows , and her lips were lined with #13 pencil blended with Rouge Pur 143 Lipstick. This lip color was perfect, and when wearing a red dress, less is more! All products mentioned are from Yves Saint Laurent Beauty.

This look definitely shined on the red carpet, way to "Rock the Kasbah" Genevieve!

Whenever photographer Indochine and I do commercial or catalog shoots, we always seem to knock it out of the park. This shoot was for a fitness magazine, and the look was fresh, clean healthy skin. The hair was done by the talented Tara Copeland, and we shot near UCLA and in Santa Monica at the most unique places. Needless to say, these shots will be coming to a fitness magazine near you!. Here are some shots I took with my phone. They don't do the model's justice, but just imagine the finished product.

I used this new product by Yves Saint Laurent beauty on the two models pictured here called Top Secrets Touche Express, and it gives me the highlight I need every time! Let's not forget the ever popular Touche Eclat, and Bronzer. The lip color was Gloss Pur #2 also by YSL. You glow girls!

Scholarship Contest at FIDM...

It was my pleasure to work with FIDM students yet again for an amazing scholarship opportunity. The student chosen would be given financial assistance to join the IMPD program. In this program, students travel, work with actual brands, and design their own collection based on the brand and trend. I have worked with them several times before, and it's great to see how hard these students work to deliver the best product. Here's a behind the scenes look at the models getting ready to be judged. Can't show off too much.......this IS a contest!

This one had a long skirt with a train on it, think if Rihanna got married with that red hair she's been rocking...this design put that image in my head, really cool idea!

There are some truly talented students at FIDM. This designers concept was a tribute to her Colombian heritage. She actually had hand made fruit made out of fabric sewn on to this model's skirt. Very creative! May the best designer win!!

Congratulations to the talented team behind HBO's Temple Grandin for their 5 Emmy wins that night!! This made for TV movie is a definite must see.

Alter Ego Shoot with Derek Blanks...

There are so many talented people in this industry, and I am continuously blessed to work with the best of the best. I was actually called last minute to assist celebrity make up artist, Saisha Beecham, with one of the alter ego shoots for actor Laz Alonso. Derek Blanks is known for his creative shooting style, and Saisha is known for her spectacular artist abilities, so I was super excited to work with them both!!

The shoot took place at Box Eight Studios in Los Angeles, and we had an amazing time on set. The process of getting someone camera ready for a regular photo shoot is long, but imagine turning someone into a stone statue...That's exactly what we did. Saisha is self-taught and very knowledgeable about placement, and color selection so it seemed to be easy enough. 4 messy hours later, with clay, paint, water, and glue all over the place, we had achieved our goal. Laz went from a smooth caramel skinned Hollywood hunk, to a cracked stone cold statue (at least that's what he looked like...lol!). The skill behind that kind of a job is well thought out, so I commend Saisha for her dedication. Me being a make up artist who does more beauty work, this was definitely a fun out the box experience for me. Check out shots of the making of Laz into Buddha.

I learned so much that day, and I am grateful for Saisha and the Derek Blanks team allowing me to come give a helping hand!

Michelle Williams gives back!

I love what I do, and every job is a new experience. I thank God for all of my experiences, especially when it involves charity. If I'm able to do anything to make a difference, I make myself available, and so does a super star like Michelle Williams! She was invited to San Diego for her participation in a non-profit event for an organization called TERI. TERI stands for Training, Education & Research Institute. It's an entire lifestyle dedicated to serving individuals with special needs, development and learning disabilities and their families. With 1 and 110 children now being diagnosed with autism, the need for these services is monumental. Check out a few behind the scenes shots below.

I had the pleasure of spending the day with Michelle as she met the CEO and founder of TERI, Cheryl Kilmer and rode a horse for the first time on one of the properties.

I was actually able to meet a few of the children, and see how TERI's program has helped to shape their lives. It was heart warming to say the least, and I really enjoyed myself.

They are raising money right now to finish building the Therapeutic Equestrian Center to offer more space, rewards, and programs to all the families. "Dysfunctional Friends and a Funeral"...as crazy as it sounds!

I had the pleasure of working for the first time with amazing director Corey Grant, producer Datari Turner, and an all star cast for this hilarious movie!! Getting together Stacey Dash, Meagan Good, Wesley Jonathan, Persia White, Vanessa Simmons, Tatyana Ali, Terrell Owens, Christian Keyes, Stacey Keibler, Reagan Gomez-Preston, Hosea Chanchez, Jason Weaver and Keith Robinson - -this is sure to be a classic film! Everyone was so humble, and the on-set jokes NEVER stopped. I can't give too many details about this wonderful project away, but here are some behind the scenes pictures of what I was doing at least...lol:)

I often get last minute calls to do make up for various award shows, celebrity events, movie premieres...you name it! This happened just recently for the BET Awards. The beautiful Rozonda Thomas aka "Chilli" needed my services. Her regular make up artist Day was already super busy, so they reached out to me:) Many thanks to her team, because Chilli was a pleasure to work with!

I was glad I got the opportunity, especially after being a fan of TLC for so many years! Chilli was so down to earth, sweet, funny, and simply flawless. We exchanged skincare tips, but her main thing was drinking lots of water. Her make up regime is very natural, and she knows exactly what she wants. Trust me, after seeing her skin in person, I drank about 4 extra glasses than normal that evening:)

I've recently been hosting a series of beauty events for Yves St. Laurent Cosmetics! What an exciting line to work with! Coming from a MAC Cosmetics background, I must say that the pigments in some of the YSL products are the best by far!! I am in love with their lipsticks, bronzers, nail polishes and mascara. My own lashes have never looked longer. The mascara is called Volume Effet Faux Cils, and their staple product is this miracle highlighting tool called Touche' Eclat. One of these is sold every 40 seconds all over the world. They even have a product called Gommage, and after only one use, your skin will glow to perfection. Most of you remember her face from the classic movie "Save The Last Dance", "The Vampire Diaries", or a host of other roles. Now you can catch her as a regular on a new ABC series called "Pretty Little Liars", playing a free spirited character named Maya St. Germain.

I had the pleasure of working with her recently, getting her dolled up for a red carpet appearance in Los Angeles. We went with a very natural make up look, and she looked amazing in her dress!! I love what I do, and I especially love when the client knows how to pose....work Bianca!

We've been talking about the Prom Makeover Contest for a few weeks now, and the Sacramento winner had her makeover today! Congratulations to Davis High School's own, Bianca Brown. After reading her heartfelt story, it was clear how deserving she was. (Bianca tearing up below)

A bad hair day comes and goes for most, but for Bianca Brown “bad hair days” are plentiful. Not so in the traditional way, but in a symbolic way that reflects the current situation of her family. Having to care for her ailing mother each day, Bianca wishes that she could stress over and think of simply having a bad hair day.

For the past 3 years, Bianca has been the rock that keeps her family together as her mother struggles with overcoming brain surgery. Bianca’s mother is unable to work, thus leaving very little extra money for the fun stuff and high school memories such as prom. As Bianca nears her prom, she worries that she will not have all that she needs including the help from her mom to give her the classy sewn in weave that she wants. Though not a professional stylist, Bianca’s mom always made sure her girls looked good. Because of her strength, Bianca deserves a day of fun and excitement that is just about her. I hope that you will consider her and make her prom memorable and special.
We were really excited to have chosen her as the winner of our contest. She had her hair styled by Sharie Lewis of DreamGirls Fine Hair Imports & Salon in Elk Grove, and her make up done by me! The day was full of fun, laughter, and at some moments, tears. Bianca was very thankful, and we were all humbled by the experience.

Make up life....keeping me busy!

I have not posted in a while, why?....Thank God, I have been busy working:) I will take you back through the last month or so, and let you in on what I've been up to. More pictures and posts will soon follow.

Rihanna's make up artist, Mylah Morales, hosted a workshop at Box Eight in downtown LA. I went, and it was an amazing experience to say the least. We shot the pilot for Stacey Dash's new reality show on Vh1 (keep your fingers crossed), it will be a great watch! I worked again with Ryan Leslie's artist, Krys Ivory, on her first music video for the song "Be Next 2 Ya" starring the very handsome Collins Pennie from the movie FAME! I worked with the talented celebrity Chef Ameera Leguex for her article in 944 Magazine, and she even brought my clients food to the set!! Another artist who is yet to be heard, but has an amazing look is Australian singer, Stephanie Sexton. Her photo shoot was dope, and the pictures are going to be crazy!

Currently, I am working on a movie with Stacey Dash along with an amazing all-star cast. I was excited to see Meagan Good, Christian Keyes, and many more from my past. Meagan Good was actually my first client for make up in Los Angeles:) I can't give up too many details on the movie, so stay tuned for details and behind the scene shots! We definitely had a great time on set.

Suelyn Medeiros.... "Beauty Close Up"

I have had several people hit me up about this look I did on Suelyn in the winter issue of J'Adore Magazine. So I will go step by step on how to get this look yourself!

I sprayed her face down with MAC Fix+ Spray as I posted in an earlier blog entry. I used Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer mixed with MAC Strobe Cream, to prep the skin. I concealed her eye area with Physician's Formula Light Concealer (Yes, I said Physician's Formula)..lol. I LOVE that as a highlight and base!! I used Nude eyeshadow from Smashbox to warm her eye are back up. A hint of MAC Bisque on her lid to make it pop just a little. MAC Smolder Eye Kohl in her water line, and lots of mascara from Lancome.

They wanted the girls to look clean, and simple...but we all know the "no make up" look takes more make up than normal for some reason:) I used concealer all over her entire face blended into the skin with a blush brush. High Def Liquid Concealer by Smashbox in Med/Dark. Set it all with a translucent powder, and contoured her face with a bronzer from NARS called Silvana (which they don't seem to have anymore:( A touch of Desire Blush from NARS on her apples. Her lip was just a mix of the same concealer and a lip gloss called Pixel by Smashbox.

Suelyn was a definite pleasure to work with! I will post her next shoot with me very soon!

Grammy Time Again...

It's that wonderful time of year when all of the fabulous people in the music industry celebrate their craft, and party like the rock stars they are! I had the pleasure of doing make up again this year for one of those rock stars...Michelle Williams.

Michelle's skin was so radiant, and her new hair cut rocked....styled by LA's own China Upshaw! I like the "less is more" look with make up on Michelle. She has a great face already, so I didn't want to hide that with lots of elements...so we just worked with a hot lip this time. She was glowing on that red carpet!

Here she is at Maxwell's Grammy party..we did the smokey eye for this event with white eyeliner in the water line.

Loving Milani Cosmetics!!

So I did a photo shoot today with a friend of mine, and she told me I could leave my kit at home?? She said someone from Milani Cosmetics was going to drop some product off, and that she wanted me to use it. Skeptical about the idea, I brought my basic kit ...just in case:) To my surprise, the Milani products worked beautifully on all of the models. I wasn't happy that I hadn't heard about them until today, but I'm glad I know about them now!

The shoot was pretty long, starting out being really hot outside, then turning very cold towards the night...and the make up stood the test of time. The models barely needed touch ups for shine, which is rare. Here is picture from super talented hair artist, Joshua Allen Brown's phone (taken towards the end of the shoot). I will post more pics as I get them!

The finished LOOK...

Stacey loves to look dewy and golden so I like to mix Chanel Translucent foundation #3 with Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer to set the skin. Then I take MAC's mineralized shimmer and highlight her face in certain areas for the glow. NARS Deep Throat blush is her favorite, then we seal the lips with a nude gloss.

Stacey Dash....She's Back!!

Most of you remember Mrs. Dash from her feisty character Dionne in the 1995 hit movie “Clueless”, starring Alicia Silverstone. I worked with her on her new film, “House Arrest” a few months ago, and her character was just as fabulous and feisty.

We caught up with her again at the Jimmy Choo, H & M event in Los Angeles last night and she looked better than ever.

She loves pink blush, so I like to mix it with the warm colors on her skin tone. Transitioning from our summer make up, a lot of the colors stay the same. We still want our skin to be bronzy, and most of us all want our eyes to pop. This simple look goes with everything, and can easily be worn everyday.

Check out this great winter break campaign I did the make up for in the Sports Issue of J'Adore Magazine on newsstands now. The stylists for this shoot were the fabulous Maya and Ashley of M&A Styles, and a few of the bikinis they used were their own original designs. These ladies are definitely talented! The wonderful photography was done by LA's own Ken Townsend. He always brings out the natural beauty when he shoots!

Make up was very light, clean and perfectly dewy thanks to MAC Fix + Spray! Shooting in Malibu on this day was so beautiful and sunny. It's easy to enjoy yourself on a shoot like this, it looks like they did....great work team!!

Exciting blast from the past...

Okay, these last few weeks have been crazy busy for me!! I must say that my variety of clientele never ceases to amaze me. One week I'm with Flavor Flav, then on to Stacey Dash's for an event, Rodney Allen Rippy and I in a music video, Emmy attendees, but this week takes the cake!

Today I had the pleasure of working with former Ronettes singer, Nedra (Talley) Ross. I know you may not know who that is, so I have included a clip, and current picture (she's on the far right). She and her two cousins made up the group, and they were one of the biggest groups in the 60's. They even toured with The Beatles!

Just recently their group was inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame, which is HUGE. Unfortunately, I was working with her under not so pleasant circumstances. The producer that made them so famous was Phil Spector, who was just convicted of murder. So she was being interviewed about her memories of him for a True Crime television show that airs in 2010.

Nedra was very sweet, and it was so great to meet her....especially since I love that song! She is still just as beautiful at 63, and we laughed about how hair & make up styles repeat themselves. It just goes to show, you NEVER know who you'll meet in Hollywood. I love what I do!!

Katy Johnson...on the rise!

As usual it's always a pleasure to work with beautiful actress/model, Katy Marie Johnson www.katyjohnson.net. We did a photo shoot today at a beautiful house in the West Hollywood hills. She is starring in a movie called "2001 Maniacs: The Sequal" which is set to be released early next spring. She says it's hilariously scary, so be sure to check it out!!

Today's shoot was full of different looks that we've never tried on her make up wise. Stay tuned for the pictures and I will share the looks with you step by step. More information on the movie will soon follow...

I rarely blog about products unless they have made my make up career easy as well as exciting. These last 2 weeks I have been extremely busy, and I've kept certain staple products in my kit that work well on each type of client...
With that being said, MAC's Studio Sculpt Foundation looked great used on the models outside on Malibu Beach, the bride I did for a WeTV's "Platinum Weddings" episode, and a model for her evening out. I sampled it for the first time recently, and it really worked out!! Underneath the foundation, you must have Photo Finish Primer by Smashbox. I NEVER leave home without this!! To top off those fabulous eyes, the liner I recommend is a gel based liner called Jet Set by Smashbox.

Get these items in your make up bag, and your look will last all night.

Keeping busy these days has kept me from blogging so much, but I always try and give you a sneak peak into what I am working on. Last week was a lot of fun working with the hilarious Flavor Flav on a new project created by Deon Taylor called "Nite Tales". If you were a fan of Twilight Zone and Tales from The Crypt, then you will definitely like this updated rendition.

The different short stories feature some of your favorite celebrities, and it's all hosted by Flavor Flav playing the "Timekeeper". Right now it comes on station WGN in a weird time slot, but that will change soon. Take a look at some behind the scenes shots of Flav and I having fun with his character. Keep in mind he is very particular about ANYTHING on his face, so it wasn't so funny the entire time....he really made me work.

Check out the eyebrows and the wicked black nails! I hope he's still not mad at me about the glue...lol. Thanks for being a good sport!

I have been working for the last few weeks on a new movie called "House Arrest" starring the beautiful Stacey Dash, and rapper The Game, so no time to blog obviously. Anyway, we just wrapped and I can't wait to share the experience.

"Faces of Ekqualyte" Look Book Shoot

I am always doing some interesting shoots, but this one takes the cake. Take a look at some behind the scenes shots of talented designer, Manuel Jackson's, Faces of Ekqualyte campaign and look book shoot. Photographer Felix Salzman of Look Book LA, was gracious enough to give his creative eye to this conceptually amazing project.

We were blessed to have very popular models Rich Ting of the 2009 Adidas campaign www.RichTingWorld.com, and Taylor Reed whom you've probably seen in a few Target and NIKE ads recently www.myspace.com/marionslaton, grace us with their gifts. They were both very genuine, and I am glad they were able to work with us.

I'm sure most of you guys have seen some of the make up disasters that High Definition television can bring out. Since I do more editorial make up than anything, venturing out into the world of HD was interesting to me. Well, I did my research on the best HD products out there right now. I kept reading articles about the new products Smashbox had to offer, and I couldn't wait to try them.

I have truly been blessed my entire career, and I am always excited to work with new clients....especially Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child. It's like my life's work has come full circle, as my passion for the industry started with Beyonce' & Solange when I was only 19 yrs. old. I always love doing make up for fashion shows, they are so much fun. I recently had the opportunity to work with the talented designer Danielle Kelly of DK75Raw. Danielle Kelly launched her design career in 2003 with Von Dutch. She was hired by former Head Designer, Christian Audigier, currently the mastermind behind Ed Hardy. Danielle modified their world famous T’s into one of a kind, hand cut and woven, original creations.

The Bachelorette......on ABC

Yaaay, so The Bachelorette has finally aired, and only 2 of the guys I worked with went home!!

I was lucky enough to be the make up artist/groomer for the rose ceremony, and 12 of the eligible bachelors chosen to try and win the heart of Ms. Jillian Harris this season. I had so much fun getting to know each of them, and Sasha actually went to the same elementary school as me--not to mention we know some of the same people from Houston. You know I am rooting for him, as well as Jake, Simon, Mathue, and Wes. All of them are very genuine guys, television or not. Good luck to all of you, and may the best man win!

We were going for a real strong, feminine biker warrior---and I believe we pulled it off! The Hollywood Prescription...

Skincare and cosmetic companies are constantly giving myself, and other artists I work with, new products to try. Recently I had the opportunity to try out a product called The Hollywood Prescription, the first ever serious lip regimen.

The two step system is a lip treatment different from other non-invasive enhancement options such as lip plumpers on the market today. Lip plumpers merely sting the lips using menthol or cinnamon resulting in a plumping effect that temporarily provides fuller lips. The Hollywood Prescription is the first of its kind to provide a proven lip enhancement system involving a two step process of an exfoliant and a proprietary serum.

The client I tried this product on suffers from extremely chapped lips, and she was in need of something like this. After about a week of usage, her lips were very soft and smooth. Not so much of a plump, as her lips were already full, but smooth lips make any type of lip product look better.

J. AUGUST RICHARDS has become a visible favorite in prime time television starring in the Josh Whedon hit series, "ANGEL," and Dick Wolf's "CONVICTION." Currently, he plays Marcus McGrath on the Steven Bochco series, "RAISING THE BAR," which returns for its second season June 8th on the TNT network.

Working with J. August Richards was more than exciting for me. Not only was he in my favorite movie, "The Temptations", but he is an amazing actor and serious about his craft. He is definitely one to watch out for in some future block buster hits!

Looking good for less takes on a new meaning...

Myself, along with a few other make up artist friends team up with The Los Angeles Urban League Business and Career Work Source Center

(a non-profit funded by LA County and City Workforce Investment Boards.)

Looking your best for an interview can seem expensive, especially when you actually need the job to be able to afford the look you want. At least that’s what I used to think, before having to speak face to face with those less fortunate than me about such preparation. I was invited to speak to a group of LA job seekers about proper make up for an interview. Excited and prepared to show them the usual, I pulled out my kit...

MAC make up brushes, Bobbi Brown foundations, and Smashbox eye shadows were ready to go. However, as I was setting up, I quickly thought about the cost of all the products I was using. This wasn’t fair to the people I was teaching, because I knew why they were there. So, I had a few minutes and I made a run to Family Dollar. There I picked up some lipsticks, lip glosses; make up wipes, mascara, and eye shadow all for under $15. I also stopped at CVS to get a $9 Cover Girl foundation to complete my model’s look. Once I was done with the make up, every woman in the room wrote the product information down. It made the phrase “looking good for less” a lot more meaningful to me. I even gave my model the products I used on her face. I wish those ladies much luck in their job search!

Visiting The Los Angeles Make Up Show today, I ran into my longtime friend, and celebrity make up artist, AJ Crimson. I have been using his Kissable Couture glosses on my clients for a while now, but this new shade he has out called "First Lady" is a must have!!! Surely something to blog about, I purchased several glosses today in support of the idea itself.

Working with clients like Estelle, Letoya Luckett, and Fergie, he has surely been keeping busy. I had the chance to do a very laid back photo shoot with actor, Ronreaco Lee. I'm sure most of you know him from the boyfriend on "Sister Sister" back in the day, or from Joan's younger boo on a few episodes of "Girlfriends". He recently played the role of Chuck in "Madea Goes to Jail", and he is staying busy. Catch him on "In The Motherhood", a TV series that premieres March 26th on ABC!

He is a really down-to-earth, southern dude from ATL, and we had such a fun time shooting.

Congrats to him and his recent engagement to his longtime girlfriend! He planned out everything perfectly, and I got all the details:) Ladies, there are still some men out there who believe in the real thing, and they go after it!

Well, 3 months have passed since I last blogged, but I am happy to say that 2009 has started out well for the Jackson family...

Lollipop Artistry, Inc. has been making moves as a company. Partnering up with the clothing line "Cowgirl Heaven", providing the creative direction for their new campaign. This is one of the great shots by photographer Brittany Dixon.

Not to mention, providing the backstage beauty support to the fashion school, FIDM, as they shot their product commercial for the 2009 design graduates. To top it all off, during Grammy Awards week, Essence Magazine invited us out to provide make overs for an event sponsored by Toyota. Needless, to say we have been very busy!!

Making Grammy weekend extra exciting for me was doing make up for Grammy winner, Chrisette Michele, and Grammy nominee Janelle Monae.

Chrisette was dressed by the fabulous June Ambrose of Mode Squad, and she looked like a winner the entire night. What an amazing talent, congrats!

Janelle Monae is such a sweet spirit, and a pleasure to work with. She is even more cute and doll-like in person:) Congrats to her for her nomination! My clients are the truth...

Hey everybody, The Sean John campaign I worked on a few months ago is finally here. Check your local Macy's to see the entire campaign for Winter/Holiday '08. I was so excited to see it, and don't forget to check out Terrance J (from 106 & Park), as a feature model! It was such an amazing shoot , the shot below was taken on the rooftop of the famous Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Way to go guys!

Nothing like living and working your dream......

SO.........it's been a while since I've blogged, but I have lots to share:)

Ok, so those of you who watch "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette" here is some news for you. Apparently, last season there was a guy on the show that everyone fell in love with named Jason who has a son. He was eliminated, but he is definitely not out of the race, because he is the bachelor this season.
I was able to get to meet some of his potential mates, when I did the make up and hair for the lucky ladies to look beautiful for the infamous "rose ceremony". It was very top secret, and I can't reveal anything about them until January, except they were some of the sweetest, most down to earth women ever! Stay tuned on ABC!

On October 22, 2008, Manuel and I did it again!! We successfully completed our 3rd Annual Artist Appreciation Night. This time we partnered with Art Share LA to raise money for the non-profit, and its various art programs. The night was filled with great music, great drinks, great food, and creative people.

Several expressions of artistic talent took place at the same time which included a live photoshoot with make-up art, live art on canvas, body art, body paint and a live band with DJ. This year’s featured artists included celebrity make-up artists' CC Moten and myself of Lollipop Artistry's. Fashion Stylist, Chris Jovan along with visual artists Jason Lee (Subrage Art), Nick Miller (The Gusz), Santiago Heredia (Roborganiz) and Michael Norice (Byn Customs). Fashion designers Tina Summers (Cowgirl Heaven), Cheryl Koo (The Other Duck), Kafka (Reset Couture), and of course Manuel Jackson (Ekqualyte). We also featured art from Louis (age 2) and Kane Vitale (age 3), their mother started an organization called Angelboy Art to help children with special needs express themselves through art. Her son Louis has a rare condition called arthrogryposis, and painting is a form of exercise for him. For more information about this organization visit www.angelboyart.org.

The night was definitely one to remember. We raised close to $500 in a matter of 3 hours, and everyone had a good time. Some of what I've been doing the last few months....

Behind the scenes at this MTV taping with Danity Kane and Day 26. Every time you saw the Making The Band intro this season, I did the make up for Day 26. They are all very cool, and yes ladies I put lotion on Wil:)

Just last week, I did make up for an event hosted by Kirstie Alley at the Celebrity Center in Hollywood. It was a 1960's Pop theme.....very "Twiggy" inspired. (see model below)

I did make up for the new Snoop Dogg video "Those Gurlz" (the girl with the headphones for sure:)

Behind the scenes at the Illa J video shoot. It was much respect on the set for late producer J Dilla's little bro. This was the lead girl in the making...it was a lot of fun.

Tiffani (one of the best hairstylist in LA) preps Jennifer's hair for her close up.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been into fashion. I made my first garment at the age of 5, out of a sock, so my Barbie could have a 2 piece outfit. I was either very creative or too busy trying to get Ken's attention. Needless to say, I have been an artsy individual ever since, and people began to take notice...
I used get my hair done at Headliners in Houston, TX, home and salon of the infamous Destiny's Child. My mom had been going for years, and she finally took me when I was 17. After about 6 months of going, Tina Knowles pulled my mom aside and told her that she liked how I dressed, and she wanted me to help put some outfits together for Beyonce' and Solange. At that time, Beyonce' was doing local shows and everything was just about to happen for Destiny's Child. So, I would just pick out clothes for them, and Matthew (their dad) would come and pick them up. I even helped dress Bushwick Bill, formerly of the Gheto Boys, for one of his concerts...He was a hard one to cuff pants for I tell ya:) Once those experiences gave me a head start, I was hooked on fashion, style, and everything in between.
Soon after my 19th birthday, I entered a Fashion Designer contest that was advertised in a Today's Black Woman magazine. Once I made it through the audition process, I was excited, and couldn't wait to create. I went and picked out fabric, designed 4 garments, had them made (Lord knows I couldn't sew), and flew 2 models and myself to New Jersey for the show. I did their make up, my aunt did their hair, and we made it happen. I didn't win the contest, but the experience alone was one that I will never forget. Who knew this was just practice, for what I would later get paid to do for my clients in the industry....
Once I knew what I wanted to do in life, I moved to Los Angeles to make my dreams a reality. Starting out at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, I quickly realized I hated the actual "process" of making a garment from start to finish. I was more an end result, let's work with what we've got, as long as it looks good type of gal......and I've been doing what I love ever since. I've worked on television shows, movies, music videos, various photo shoots, and many celebrities from Hilary Duff to Hill Harper (see resume)...Doing make up, wardrobe, and image consulting, I consider myself a "style artist", and I couldn't have been more blessed in my life.
Now it's almost 2009, and I am actually married to a fashion designer (go figure), we have a beautiful 1 year old son, and creatively our jobs never stop. This blog is going to keep anyone interested in fashion, beauty, art, and real life up to date on what's going on with the Jackson family.
